This issue affects the whole world. It is about the preservation of precious commodities that are irreplacable. The electrical power gained through dam construction is not worth losing a pristine forest, species whose positive impact on the world has not been fully studied and understood, and a beautiful cultural heritage that has as much right to their way of life as we have to ours. The negative impact the building of this dam will have will leave our children and their children angry at us for our short-sightedness and selfishness. Protect the indigenous people! Protect the important resources of the rain forest!

These people have rights. They deserve respect and should not be forced off their native land for greedy profit driven corporations. They are stewards of the land and have lived in harmony with their environment for generations. No one or government has any rights to remove them.

While I recognize the need of a country to progress industrially to keep up with the rest of the world, Brazil owns a unique resource that should not be squandered in the name of so-called "progress".

Please do not destroy what you do not understand and forsake the people who do in your pure self interest. You can do without the power, then cannot without their land.

I fully support the indigenous people of this region. It is the same old story of people claiming rights to lands that have previously been occupied by groups of people for decades. How can we continue to allow this to be our history?

The damming of the Amazon should not be allowed! Look to other countries and see how the creation of Dams have destroyed local eco-systems that aren't as precious and fragile as the Amazon. Just imagine the destruction this would cause!

We don't have the right to destroy the homeland of these and so many more indigenous peoples. White expansion and expropriation of resources has already almost extingished these minorities. They have the absolute right to continue living on their land, which is what supports their culture.

I know some think am an American who should mind my own business however even though i am hundreds of thousands of miles away, I must stand to protect the amazon and the indigenous people of Xingu because this huge monstrous act doesn't only impact Brazil but the entire globe. The weather everywhere is getting worse and worse and cancer is rate are getting larger and larger. We take care of our environment everywhere or we die plain and simple.

There are other ways to go about handling electronic power. We must be conscious of others and NOT take over and destroy the planet. Do the people who want to build the plant not understand that this will negativly affect the future generations of their family? I wonder if any large corporate power understands that when they change the Earth in ways like this, their own grandchildren and so on will suffer.

It's important to protect not only the native peoples of Xingu, but also the forest and the animals. I request the PERMANENT ABANDONMENT of the Belo Monte hydroelectric dam project.
During World War II in America my grandfather went to war in Italy and northern Africa. When he returned the Tennessee Valley Authority had built a similar dam in his hometown and flooded his entire homeland. My Grandpa actually had to search for his family because they had been displaced by the government. Every time he told this story, tears would well up in his eyes. He would often request that we drive him to the lake and he would sit for hours looking at his underwater home. I do not wish this on anyone. |
Message de Kaye, Etats Unis (USA) - 14/02/2012

Please stop and think what will happen to this very important resource if you build this dam. There are so many possibilities for medicine, food, ecology that will be lost if the area is flooded. And the indigenous peoples--where will YOU relocate them since YOU will be responsible for destroying their home and lives?
Message de Suzanna, Australie - 14/02/2012

This is immoral and needs to be stopped. The Indigenous people of Xingue should not lose their homes and culture for a hydroelectric dam project. I am completely against this proposal.
