| There are causes worth fighting for; it is unfortunate that our global community is confused on this point. If we knew the cure for AIDS, cancer or aging was indigenous to this region would the dam project go forward? I am saddened and embarrassed that the human race can not seem to learn from its previous errors. I admire, respect and support the indigenous peoples of Xingu-they are apparently part of a small group that understands what really is important. |

| Stop this project please. This is not the thing to do! 40,000 indigenous and local people will be forced off their native lands (as well as millions of unknown species & plants) In the name of "progress"!!! |

| Please reverse your order to build the dam. These indiginous peoples have a right to live on their lands. Have you learned nothing from what the US did to the native american indians? Put your greed aside and DO NOT BUILD THE BEL MONTE DAM!!! |

| I think preserving endogenous culture is paramount to our survival and happiness on this earth. I protest the removal and interruption of the natural environment and believe there are always alternatives to proposed problems such as that of electricity! |

| Please do not destroy so much beauty and natural wonder in the name of "progress." Real progress is finding ways to meet our own needs without destroying those of others. This is not progress. This is just destruction. |

Chief Raoni
I am writing to say that we are very keen to support your opposition to the Belo Monte dam. Here in New Zealand we have damed many of our beautiful rivers and destroyed the eco system.
There are other ways to create energy without destroying our rivers.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers.
Warm regards Jenny |

| I was not able to protest the Aswan Dam in Africa, nor countless similar programs. Are these projects ever worth it, in the long run? No. The dam itself will require constant upkeep, and the entire ecosystem will have to adapt to the changes made by the dam. That's in addition to the people whose lives will be ruined and forever changed. Let's build a dam that floods Brasilia, or any other "civilized" location. Don't want to? Then you have absolutely no right to drown someone elses' land. |

Land exists so that life can thrive. It was here long before we were born and it will be here long after we die. There is no way anyone can own land. If you live on it it's yours, if you don't live on it, it's not...THAT is the right of every living creature on this planet. We are one planet, and as such we must embrace our brothers and sisters and allow them to live how and where they see fit.
We are an evolved race, we should try to act like it and remember the mistakes that we made in the past...and try to learn from them. Remember the Trail of Tears. |
