INFORMATION FOR INTERNET USERS OF THE RAONI.COM WEBSITE

The raoni.com website has not been updated since June 2017. However, it remains online because its historical content is of general interest to the general public, researchers and the media.

The raoni.com website was created in 2010 under the name raoni.fr, in agreement with the cacique (chief) Raoni Metuktire to support his fight for the Amazonian forest.

In particular, this site hosts the international petition of chief Raoni against the Belo Monte dam, which has raised global awareness about the danger of hydroelectric infrastructure in the Amazon, supposedly sustainable but actually built at the expense of indigenous peoples, traditional populations and biodiversity, with the participation of European or foreign companies.

From 2010 to 2017, for 7 long and intense years, raoni.com's activist editors worked hard, voluntarily and not without risk, to inform the French-speaking and international public about the situation of indigenous peoples in the Amazon and elsewhere, and to echo the actions and messages of chief Raoni.

Beyond the already well-known image of chief Raoni, used most of the time in a folkloric, and sometimes even neo-colonialist way by the media for two decades, the raoni.com website, a popularization tool, has enabled a significant number of people around the world to discover the many facets of a key battle for future generations: that of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon and the rest of the world, guardians of the last areas to be protected.

From January 2012, raoni.com and its content were administered by the association Planète Amazone, which launched numerous citizen action campaigns and passed on fundraising campaigns on this platform in collaboration with brazilian ngo Instituto Raoni and other organizations.

The raoni.com website has not been updated since June 2017. However, it remains online because its historical content is of general interest to the general public, researchers and the media. In the hope that its contents will inspire younger generations and in tribute to anonymous heroes and the many victims of the past, present and future, raoni.com remains an extremely vivid testimony to 7 years of struggle.
